Don’t Buy the Lie About Drilling in the Arctic Refuge!
The message below, urging concerned Americans to oppose oil drilling in the Arctic Refuge and off our coastlines, was sent to you by
Dear Friend,
In the seven years since George Bush and Dick Cheney began a “Drill and Spill” rampage worthy of nineteen-century oil barons, the price of oil has skyrocketed 100 dollars and the price of gasoline has more than doubled.
But don’t wait for them to admit failure. The White House is too busy exploiting our pain at the gas pump in order to hand Big Oil the ultimate prize: access to the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and America’s spectacular coastlines.
Their plan is simple and cynical. The President and his Congressional allies will sell America the big lie: If we’d only let the oil giants drill where they want, our problems at the pump will be over.
Please go to http://www.nrdconline.org/campaign/stop_arctic_and_offshore_drilling right now and tell your Senators and Representative you are not buying it.
America cannot drill its way out of this energy mess. We simply don’t have enough oil to move the world market.
President Bush’s own Energy Department estimates that drilling in the Arctic Refuge would lower prices at the pump by less than four pennies per gallon — and that would be 20 years from now!
Drilling off the spectacular coastlines of California, New England and Florida might produce a few weeks’ worth of oil and lower prices by a few more pennies. Meanwhile, the price of gas has gone up 50 cents just this spring!
There’s only one way to end our energy pain and that is by breaking our destructive dependence on oil. We need cars that get at least 40 miles per gallon. We need millions of plug-in hybrids that connect to a cleaner electric grid powered by renewables like wind and solar. We need more mass transit and better biofuels.
These are the real energy solutions that President Bush has sacrificed on the altar of oil addiction. Only the oil companies would want more of the same.
Go to http://www.nrdconline.org/campaign/stop_arctic_and_offshore_drilling and tell your Senators and Representative to reject these shameless land grabs by Big Oil. Tell them to start kicking our national oil habit instead of emptying our wallets and destroying our last wild places.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
Frances Beinecke

Martin Henson is a Yorkshireman, born and bred. Born into a family of farmers, Martin’s love for the countryside and nature was immediate. As a photographer, he remembers his first camera vividly, given to him at the age of 12, and he still owns it! It is this little “Kodax Box Brownie” that sparked his interest in photography.
Martin Henson is a self taught photographer, inspired by photographers such as Ansel Adams, Fay Goodwin, and Bill Brandt. However, his main inspiration comes from within himself and from his time spent in nature. Martin is in awe of the beautiful landscapes that surround him; through his travels he has witnessed some of the most spectacular sights nature has to offer and is humbled by them.
Martin captures the sense of power and scale that nature holds, not as his camera may see it, but through his own interpretation through inspiration on witnessing many of the great events nature offers.
Martin Henson now resides in Horsforth in West Yorkshire, an ideal location where he never seems to run out of photographic opportunities. He shoots all of his images in digital format, and he does his own editing in his home studio. His favorite time to shoot is early morning or late evening, as the sun is low. Martin’s love of photography has only grown since receiving his first camera, and he still has many visions of what he wants to portray; he gets great satisfaction from seeing his images in print so that others may share his inner vision and love of nature.

Karmaloop Boston
At last we arrive at our final destination, the grand re-opening of Karmaloop’s Boston store. Many travel from as far as Japan to celebrate this historic occasion. It was great to see such an eclectic array of people having a great time under the same roof. Note that we also visited The Attic in Boston and Anya Blu in Rhode Island, but forgot to take pictures.

After Mansion we stopped by Area 401 were we spent a few hours kicking it with Sam and Cynthia. Cynthia promised to sing for us next time we are in town… I guess we’ll be going back to Rhode Island soon.

Rich and I were invited to celebrate the re-opening of the Karmaloop store in Boston. So we packed our bags and headed North on I-95. On our way to Boston we visited a few friends in Rhode Island. First stop was the hommies at Mansion. Kerv was nice enough to give the kid a cut (he also owns the barber shop next door). Big thanks to the Mansion crew for making us feel at home; from the fresh cut to the Dominican food and Presidentes (Dominican Beer).
